General Roofing Questions
Do your estimates cost anything? expand_more
No, our damage assessments and estimates are completely free with no obligation. We will inspect your roof, document any issues with photos, and provide a detailed, price-locked estimate. You pay nothing unless you decide to move forward with the work.
How much does a new roof cost? expand_more
The cost of a new roof depends on several factors: the size of your roof, the shape and slope, the number of existing layers that need removal, and the materials you choose. Most residential roof replacements in the Tucson area range from $10,000 to $25,000. The best way to get an accurate price is to schedule a free inspection so we can assess your specific situation.
Which roofing system is best for my home? expand_more
The best roofing system depends on your home's structure, your budget, and your aesthetic preferences. We need to inspect your roof to determine the best methods, materials, warranties, and pricing for your specific situation. Tile roofing is extremely popular in Tucson for its durability and heat resistance, while shingle roofing offers an affordable, versatile alternative.
Can you install a new roof over my existing one? expand_more
In some cases, yes, a new roof can be installed over an existing one. However, we generally recommend full removal of the old roofing material. Removing the existing roof allows us to inspect the substrate (the decking underneath) for any hidden damage, rot, or moisture issues. This ensures your new roof has a solid foundation and will last as long as possible.

What are the differences between shingle types? expand_more
There are three main types of asphalt shingles:
- Three-Tab Shingles: The most affordable option. Single-layer construction with a flat appearance. Best for budget-conscious homeowners.
- Dimensional/Architectural 30-Year: Double-layer construction that creates a more textured, attractive look. Higher quality than three-tab with a 30-year warranty.
- Dimensional/Architectural 40-Year: The thickest, highest-quality asphalt shingle available. Double-layer construction with a 40-year warranty. Best long-term value.
Do dark shingles last as long as light-colored ones? expand_more
Yes. Dark-colored shingles will last just as long as lighter ones, provided your home has proper attic ventilation. Adequate ventilation prevents excessive heat buildup in the attic, which is what actually causes premature shingle degradation, regardless of color. During your free inspection, we check your ventilation system as part of our assessment.
What warranties come with roofing materials? expand_more
Material warranties typically range from 25 to 40 years, depending on the product and manufacturer. These warranties cover manufacturing defects in the materials themselves. In addition to the manufacturer's material warranty, Blueprint Home Services provides a separate 15-year workmanship warranty that covers any repairs needed due to installation errors. Together, you get comprehensive protection for your investment.
What is a roof ridge? expand_more
A ridge is the very top of a roof where two sloping sides meet. It runs level to the ground along the peak of the roof. The ridge is typically covered with ridge caps (special shingles designed for this area) or a ridge vent, which allows hot air to escape from your attic while keeping rain and debris out.
What is a roof valley? expand_more
A valley is the junction where two roof decks (slopes) intersect, forming a V-shaped channel. Valleys are critical areas because water flows down both slopes and concentrates in the valley. Proper valley flashing and waterproofing is essential to prevent leaks, which is why valleys are one of the first areas we inspect during a roof assessment.
Service & Process
Do you keep the property clean during the project? expand_more
Absolutely. Our crews clean the work area and your yard at the end of every workday. We use tarps to catch debris, magnetic sweepers to pick up nails, and do a thorough walkthrough before we leave. Your property will be clean and safe throughout the project, not just at the end.
What happens to the old roofing debris? expand_more
All old roofing materials, including shingles, tiles, underlayment, and any damaged decking, are collected and taken to a licensed landfill for proper disposal. Debris removal is included in your estimate. You do not need to arrange separate hauling or disposal.
Can you replace a roof during winter months? expand_more
Yes. In Tucson's mild climate, we can perform roof replacements and repairs year-round. Winter temperatures in the Tucson metro area rarely drop low enough to affect roofing material installation. We make minor adjustments for weather conditions, but winter is actually an excellent time for roofing work, as temperatures are cooler for our crews and there is less monsoon rain to contend with.
